Charles H. Ahrens, 73, one of the first rural mail carriers at Two Rivers, died Thursday night at the Two Rivers Municipal hospital. He had been ill two years.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Klein and Stangel Inc., funeral home, Two Rivers, the Rev. Carl Hagen of this city officiating. Burial will be in Forest View cemetery. The body may be viewed at the funeral home.

Mr. Ahrens was born in Kossuth in 1874 and moved to Two Rivers when a young man. Forty years ago he became one of three rural mail carriers out of the Two Rivers office remaining in the service 16 years. Two years after he married Miss Amelia Cammers he purchased a small farm near Two Rivers. Twenty-four years ago he took over the old Ahrens farm near Shoto.

Mr. Ahrens, widely known in musical circles, was a bass violin player with the original Gloe-Naidl orchestra, which included Arthur and Archie Gloe, the late August Gloe, and the late Joseph and Frank Naidl and Dr. A.R. Naidl, the latter now of Manitowoc.

For a number of years he was both Clerk and assessor of the town of Two Rivers, holding the posts while serving as treasurer of the school district.

Surviving Mr. Ahren (sic) are his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Gladys Curtis of Washington, D.C., Mrs. Rachael Dohr, of Two Rivers; Mrs. Winifred Spring of Lockport, N.Y.; two sons, Lincoln Ahrens, an engineer on a merchant ship, now in India, and Charles R. Ahrens at home. He also leaves three brothers, John of Mishicot, George of Wausau and Louis Ahrens of Manitowoc, and a sister, Mrs. Anna Koeser of Two Rivers. There a three grandchildren.
