Cletus Eugene Barnes Sr., 87, of Libertytown, died suddenly Friday, Dec. 21, 2001, at his home. Born Sept. 14, 1914, in Frederick County, he was the son of the late Harry T. and Rilla Poole Barnes. He was the husband of Charlotte Louise Clem Barnes, who died in 1986. He was the last of his immediate family of nine children.

Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law Geneva N. and Joe Delphey of Union Bridge, Ruth Ann and Bill Vaughn of Falling Waters, W.Va.; sons and daughters-in-law Cletus E. Jr. and Gerry Barnes of Unionville, and Larry T. and Connie Barnes of Emmitsburg; daughter-in-law Patsy Horman Barnes of Frederick; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by son Walter E. Barnes, who died in 1998.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 11802 Liberty Road, Libertytown, with the Rev. Barry Taylor, pastor of Union Bridge United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Glade Cemetery, Walkersville, MD.
