He left to cherish his wonderful wife, Lucy R. Harrison-Hrabowski of fifty-two years, and his daughter Mrs. Darlene L. Hrabowski-Grier (Milton) and son Derrick J. Hrabowski. He left to cherish 8 Granddaughters, 3 Grandsons, 1 Great-Granddaughter, and 1 Great-Grandson. He is survived by his brother Thomas Hrabowski (Peggy) and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family.
Mr. Hrabowski was born and reared in Tyler Alabama where he attended and graduated from Tyler Union High School in May 1966. He was a member of the New Camp Creek Baptist Church. He relocated to Detroit Michigan that same year where he worked for Chrysler Corporation and Ford Motor Company. In December 1967, he entered the United States Air Force where he served until August 1991.
Master Sergeant Hrabowski ‘s tours of duty included six stateside and two overseas assignments. He received numerous college credit hours and certificates during his tenure in the military. His decorations, medals, badges, citations and campaign ribbon awards include; Air Force Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with one silver oak leaf cluster and one bronze oak leaf cluster, National Defense Service Medal with one bronze star, Air Force Overseas Short Tour Ribbon, Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with four oak leaf clusters, NCO Professional Military Education Graduate Ribbon with one oak leaf cluster, Small Arms Expert Riffle Ribbon, Air Force Training Ribbon and Meritorious Service Medal.
He was honored for being an original Foot Soldier who marched over the Edmund Pettus Bridge on March 7, 1965, currently known as Bloody Sunday. After returning to the civilian world, he worked for Automated Information Management Service of Lanham, MD., Gates Rubber Co. Lithonia, GA., Army Air Force Commission Michael L. Thurmond, the first African American elected to that office. He retired from the Georgia Department of Labor in November 2011.
He joined Friendship Community Church in 1998 where he served on Senior Usher Ministry, Trustee Ministry, Social Action Ministry, Human Resource Ministry, and others. He was a Master Mason in the Prince Hall Freemasonry. His hobbies included hunting, collecting coins and stamps, making wine, and canning.
