Monica "Monnie" Chism Clopton, age 90, of Louisville, KY, formerly of Meade County, passed away Thursday, July 8, 2021 at U of L Health – Mary & Elizabeth Hospital in Louisville, KY. Monnie was born March 4, 1931 in Frymire, KY to the late Houston Henry & Laurel Myrtle Hardesty Pollock. Her two husbands, William Chism and Donald Clopton; son, Mickey Chism; four sisters: Eula Mattingly, Della Mattingly, Evelyn Wathen, and Maxine Wafford; four brothers: Donald, Arthur, Leo & Lamar Pollock; and longtime companion, Jack Watkins also preceded her in death. Monnie was a member of the St. Polycarp Quilters and PRP Homemakers. She retired from Lorillard Tobacco after many years and was a former member of the Beechmont Woman's Club. Monnie was also a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Fairdale, KY. She is survived by her daughter, Marlene (Billy) Medley of Louisville; daughter-in-law, Diana Chism of Brandenburg; sister, Lorene Whitworth of Irvington; six grandchildren: Tony (Shellie) Medley, Bart (Melinda) Medley, Amy (Jeff) Haynes, Emily (Russ) Matthews, David (Shannon) Chism, and Kyle (Tabitha) Chism; 16 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at 11 AM EDT at St. Mary Magdalen of Pazzi Church in Payneville, KY with burial to follow in St. Mary Cemetery. A prayer service will be held Monday, July 12 at 6 PM at the funeral home. Visitation will be held Monday, July 12, 2021 from 3-8 PM EDT at Bruington-Jenkins-Sturgeon Funeral home in Brandenburg and Tuesday after 9 AM at the church.
