Franklin B. Wood, Sr., age 76, of West Carrollton, passed away June 17, 2019.

He was born February 14, 1943 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Leslie David and Ethel (Bryant) Wood. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 7 brothers and sisters.

Franklin retired from the U.S. Navy after serving for 20 years, from 1960 until 1980. During his service he served as a GMMC and was an Instructor at Great Lakes for Gun and Missile schooling and served many years at sea during the Cuban Missile Crisis and Vietnam War. He went on to work for CB Manufacturing as Maintenance Supervisor for 20 years then retired and went to Cook Foods for 5 years as Maintenance Supervisor, finally retiring at the age of 67.

Franklin loved spending time with his family and enjoyed many different adventures with his grandkids.

He is survived by his “High School Sweetheart” and wife of 58 years, Shirley (Arahood) Wood; children, Frank Jr. and his wife, Paula, Brenda McFarland Wood, John and his wife, Jennifer; 9 grandchildren, Frank III, Christina (Denny Capps) Finster, Jonathon, Eric (Melanie), Hanna (Jacob) Groah, Suzy, Samantha “Sammy”, Vanessa, Shannon; 14 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson. He is also survived by his 2 sisters, Mary Groin and Faye Taylor, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2019 from 11:00 am until time of service at 1:00 pm at Newcomer Kettering Chapel 3940 Kettering Blvd. Burial will follow at Dayton National Cemetery.
