Janie Vereen Lewis was born August 30, 1930 in Georgetown, SC to parents Mose Vereen and Ina Burgess Vereen. She was the eldest of six children. She departed this earthly life on Sunday, June 16, 2019 at her residence after an illness.

Janie attended the schools in both Dillon and Williamsburg Counties. She was married to Willie E. Lewis, Sr and to this union two sons were born. She was a faithful, dedicated and supportive member of Cumberland United Methodist Church. Janie held many positions and on various committees within the church and community, such as, James H. Spears Jr. Choir, Choir #2, Fifth Sunday Ensemble Choir; United Methodist Women; Womens Circle #8; Elite Savings/Social Club and Widows/Widowers of Veterans Regional of SC; and Woodmount Neighborhood Crime Watch.

Janie enjoyed life to the fullest. She was always the life of the party or group and always expressed positivity. She loved laughter, eating good foods and traveling as much as possible. She had such an infectious smile and you'd always recognized her laughter above everyone else. She never met at stranger and would give anyone the shirt off her back. Janie loved to say, "I Love My Church Family". She will remain deeply in our hearts and missed.

Preceding her in death were his parents, Mose and Ina Vereen; and husband, Willie Lewis, Sr.
