Floyd C. Buckland, age 86, of Huron, died Tuesday evening, April 13, 2004, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.

Floyd C. Buckland was born on February 11, 1918, to Charles and Mabel (Jefferson) Buckland at Bryant, SD. He grew up in the Bryant area where he attended school and graduated from Bryant High School in 1937. He moved to California and was employed at the Lockheed Aircraft Company.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force in October of 1942 and served as an aerial engineer crew chief in the European Theater during World War II. He was honorably discharged on February 5, 1946. He returned to California and resumed his job at Lockheed.

On July 20, 1946, Floyd married Dorothy Gustafson in Watertown. The couple returned to Bryant in 1947, and moved to Huron in 1954. He was employed for a period of time with Dakota Welding, Randall's Foods, Montgomery Wards for a number of years, and the City of Huron until his retirement. He continued to live in Huron after his retirement.

He was a member of American Lutheran Church, lifetime member of the Forrest McMullen VFW Post #1776, 50-year member of the William Reaves American Legion Post #7, member of the Huron Area Senior Center, Huron Rover's Camping Club, and a past member of the Huron Lions.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Huron; 1 daughter, Suzanne Crichton of Lake Stevens, WA; 2 sons, Reid (Alda) Buckland of Vicenza, Italy, and Randy Buckland of Bellevue, NE; 7 grandchildren, Kea Kellar, Ryan Crichton, Dustin Buckland, Erik Buckland, Cody Buckland, Kelly Buckland, and Casey Buckland; 10 sisters, Lillian Hansen, Evelyn Kimpton, Darlene Law, Delores (Leo) Bill, Betty (Larry) Brodahl, Marie (Verne) Larson, Joan (Duane) Hoffman, Virginia (Merle) Neu, Shirley Newstrom, and Tonnetta (Lyman) Lunde; 1 brother, Lester (Dee) Buckland; and 1 brother-in-law, Robert Blachford; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Violet Stearns, and Hazel Blachford; and 1 half-brother, Chester Buckland.

His funeral service will be Friday, April 16, at American Lutheran Church with Rev. Steven Brandsrud officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with Military Rites by the Huron Veterans Council.
