An Email message regarding the marriage situation from Anthony Clark (FAG ID: 47066147): I have not been able to find the marriage record for Monroe Theodore (Ted) Bay and Isabell Ellen Sears. I also have not found a marriage record for William Henry Combs and Isabell (Sears) Bay. The marriage information for both marriages was provided to me by Isabell's first cousin, Eleanor Marie Kent, who knew Isabell personally.
Isabell was a daughter of John W. Sears and Sophia (Fackler) Sears. She was born 5 Jul 1899 in Grant Precinct, Sheridan Wyoming so she was age 18 at the time of her marriage to William Henry Combs. Ted was born 2 Aug 1904 in Winside, Wayne, Nebraska to Henry Routh Bay and Caroline (Wildt) Bay. Ted appears in the 1910, 1920 and 1930 U. S. Census in Rushville, Sheridan, Nebraska. Isabell also lived in Sheridan County in the Grant voting precinct in the 1910 and 1920 Census. The population of Sheridan County around Rushville was sparse in those days and the families knew each other.
According to Eleanor, Isabell married Ted Bay at a young age and the marriage was annulled. I have not found an annulment record. Even though she married William Harry Combs, she chose to use the Bay surname and not the Combs surname on her tombstone. Eleanor's testimony, the census records showing proximity, and Isabelle using the Bay surname on her tombstone all provide support for, but not absolute proof of the marriage.
