Bobby Joe “Boney” Pace, age 79, a man who always gave his best, passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2018.

Mr. Pace was born April 10, 1939 to the late Herman Rufus Pace and the late Rosella Davis Pace. He was a lifelong resident of Haywood County and was a member of the 1958 graduating class of Canton High School. Bobby was indeed a gifted and talented athlete all throughout his life. He will be remembered as an outstanding pitcher for the Champion YMCA and Canton Merchants fastpitch softball teams and in his later years he was an avid golfer. Bobby retired from Champion International Paper where he was a dedicated and faithful employee. Mr. Pace was of the Baptist faith. He shall be deeply missed by his family and his many friends.

Surviving are his son, Michael Pace of Canton; his daughters, Cindy Smathers and her husband, Michael Smathers of Canton and Elizabeth McLeod of Canton; eight grandchildren; his brothers, Charles Pace of Inman, South Carolina, David Pace of Charlotte and Billy Pace of Portsmouth, Virginia.

A gathering of family and friends and also a reception to honor Bobby's life will be held from 2:00 until 4:00 pm Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
