Helen McCoy, 82, of Batavia, died at 12:17 p.m. Feb. 27, 1996, at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield. She was born Dec. 7, 1913, near Pella to Abraham Paul and Marie Rouwenhorst Buwalda. She married Elmer Burton McCoy Nov. 15, 1934, in Ottumwa. He preceded her in death Dec. 7,1980. She was raised in Pella and attended Pella schools. She and her husband farmed in the Bladensburg and Batavia areas and she was a homemaker. She was a member of Batavia United Methodist Church and Bladensburg Women’s Club. She is survived bv three sons, Mick and Joe, both of Cedar Rapids and Charles of Batavia; two daughters, Karen Rhoads of Cedar Rapids and Joan Stien of Newhall; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and a brother, Elmer Buwalda of Glendale, Ariz. She was preceded in death by four brothers. The service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Batavia United Methodist Church in Batavia, the Rev. Tony Pulatie officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Ottumwa.
