Garland Miller, 89, of Kingsport, passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2019 at his home. He was born on January 18, 1930 in Gate City, VA to the late Susie and George Miller.
Garland was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a graduate of Gate City High School and attended Milligan College. Garland was a Buck Sargent in the United States Air Force where became a Master Watch Repairman. He spent 30 years at Eastman Kodak as an electrician. Garland enjoyed helping others in the community, which is evident in the many organizations of which he was a member. He was a member of the Kingsport Masonic Lodge #688; the Jericho Shrine Temple as a member of the Marching Patrol and helping with the transport of children to the Shriner’s Childrens Hospital for treatment, Fraternal Order of the Eagles and the Loyal Oder of the Moose Lodge #972. During his time with the Moose Lodge, Garland achieved many honors including, the 25 Club, Legion membership and part of the Ritual Team, he was a Fellow, a Pilgrim, the Governor, Administrator, Lifetime Membership, Valued Veteran of the Year, Moose of the Year (twice), and earned the Lifetime Achievement Award. He was also instrumental with the opening of the Ronald McDonald House in Knoxville, by helping out with the fund raising.

Garland was an avid sports fan. He followed the Vols in all sports as well as NASCAR. He also served as a referee for area high school football.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Laura Miller; son, Jerry Miller; and his parents, Susan Crigger Miller and George Miller.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Lisa Miller and Mike Ulrich; daughter-in-law, Stacy Miller; granddaughter, Dani Miller and Anthony Pisano; brother, Wayne Miller and wife Ann; several nieces and nephews; and special caregivers, Debra Flanary, Neressa Priskorn and Rob Clemons.

The family will receive friends on Friday June 21, 2019 from 5:00 to 8:00pm at East Lawn Funeral Home. Masonic Rites will be conducted by the Masonic Lodge #688, Kingsport, TN. A celebration of Garland’s life will follow with Chaplin Todd Monroe officiating.

Garland will be laid to rest on Saturday June 22, 2019 at 12:00 noon at East Lawn Memorial Park. The American Legion Post 3/265 will conduct military Rites. Moose Legion Ritual Team will give their Service of Tribute.

Pallbearers will be Steve Candler, Steve Holt, Scott Barnett, Kris Gyori, Rick Starnes, David Cheek, and Bob Coger, Jr. The Jericho Marching Patrol will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.

Following the graveside service, a celebration of life will be held at Moose Lodge #972, 1213 Stewball Circle, Kingsport, TN. All are welcome.
