Eleanor Magdeline Penning Franzen, age 101, died March 13, 2016. Eleanor was born February 19, 1915 to the late Alfred and Mary Ludwig Penning and was the eldest of five children. On November 24, 1937 she was united in marriage to Ernest N. Franzen at St Mary's church in Chilton. She was a member of St Mary's Church, Stockbridge and St Mary's Ladies Society, Senior Citizens and many card clubs.

Eleanor enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren. She liked cooking and feeding all who walked through her door. She took pleasure in sewing especially altering clothing and making things new again. She had a green thumb, a bountiful garden and loved her flowers. She enjoyed travel, Bridge Club and playing cards with family and friends. Her greatest gift and legacy was and is her eternal and unconditional love for family.

Survivors include her daughter and son in law Joan and Glen Heimermann; son and daughter in law Jerry Franzen and Glenny Whitcomb; Son and daughter in law Bob and Joann Franzen as well as nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, her sister in law Madeline Penning of Stockbridge, and many fine nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ernest, brothers Sylvester Penning of Stockbridge, Harold Penning of Fond du Lac, Roman Penning of New London and her sister Georgianne Penning Meyer of Fond du Lac.

Wichmann Fargo Funeral Homes of Kaukauna assisted the family with a private family memorial service.
