Tanner-Diaz; five siblings; sisters-in-law, Helen K. Rhodes, Bambi A. Wylie, and Deborah Manning; nieces and nephews Marvin and Michael Elam, Darryl A. Price, Sr., Marlon G., Marcus, Joshua L., Danetta M. and Matthew T. Manning; many cousins and grand- nieces and nephews, including Deja, Darrell Jr., and DeAngelo Price, and Ayanna H. and Victor L. Martinez.

Janet graduated from Chicago’s Frances W. Parker High School and a few months later she and Joseph L. Rhodes were married in Chicago, Illinois, at her parish church St. Bernard in August 1961. Their first child, Angela, was born the following year in California. While the young family was in northern Germany, two additional daughters arrived, Zabrina and Natasha. While in Landover, Maryland, after a short break, the growing family was again blessed with two more daughters, Gretchen and Anastasia. Following another three years in southern Germany, the family returned to Illinois and everyone was pleasantly surprised when David-Joseph and Christopher were born. When her children were older, Janet went to work full-time as a documentation specialist at Abbott Laboratories in Lake County, Illinois. She remained at Abbott until her health required her to retire. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Pamela A. Price (Stafford), and her grandparents Ida (Ross) and Noah H. Lewis, Sr., and Clara (Ficklin) and Nick Manning, Sr., and many aunts and uncles.

Janet’s love for sewing, arts and crafts, cooking and baking, and interior design was displayed throughout her life and visible in her home and for her family. Pets were a must for her household. Many dogs and other animals became a part of the family, bring warmth and more love. Janet’s greatest joys in life were getting family and friends together for the Holidays, with a welcoming spirit to all who entered her home. Summertime was her favorite time of the year when flowers were in bloom. One of Janet’s favorite hobbies was gardening. She had a natural ability to create beautiful flower arrangements throughout her yard, producing a cheerful and delightful atmosphere. Other hobbies included traveling and photography.

Janet’s Love Language was Giving. She gave all that she had: her love, her time, her friendship, her strength, her commitment, herself. She always sacrificed for her loved ones.

She touched many people because of her loving nature. More than anything, Janet really loved her family and always said that out of all her jobs, being a mother was the best job ever.

Janet was a contributor to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital. In her memory, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude’s.

The family entrusted services to Leak and Sons Funeral Home, 18400 S. Pulaski Road, Country Club Hills, Illinois: viewing and visitation at 1:00-5:00pm on June 14, 2019; wake at 10:00am, followed by the funeral at 11:00am on Saturday, June 15, 2019.
