MILFORD - Richard Thomas Betts, Aug. 11, 1940 – Sept. 15, 2015, passed away at Bay Health Center, Milford, Del. on Sept. 15, 2015. Richard was the son of the late James Harry Betts and Anna Ray (Jester) Betts.
Richard is survived by his only daughter Dina Phillips, her husband George, his granddaughter Ryleigh and his loving friend and ex-wife Nancy Betts and many friends.
Richard was a hard worker; he worked at Playtex Products in Dover, Del., where he worked as a printer in the print shop from 1968 to 2008. He also worked at Bonanza Family Restaurant in Milford, Del. as a bus boy for approximately 15 years. Richard was most recently employed at the Delaware Veterans Home from 2010 to 2014, where he worked in food service department. He was fondly known at both Bonanza and Delaware Veterans Home as "Mr. Richard. "
Richard enjoyed bowling and bowled on many leagues for several years when he was a young man. Those that bowled with him or may have known him in his youth referred to him as 'Dickie". Richard's most recent hobby and greatest love was spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, Sept., 24, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Berry Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front Street, Milford, Del., where friends may call from 11:00 to 1:00 for a viewing. Interment will be Milford Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family would greatly appreciate donations to assist with medical and funeral expenses.
