Willie Mae dedicated her life to Christ at an early age and made her church home Taylors Chapel CME, where she remained a member until her death. As she continued to matriculate into her adult life and begin to write her life story, Willie Mae decided to move to Boston, MA; where she gave birth to what became her pride and joy, Jay Mark Brooks. Willie Mae then attended dental hygienist school and earned her certification. She established herself as a successful young woman but realized she was alone and needed help with this young boy who was quickly growing into a young man. Therefore, she made the decision to return to Mobile, Alabama to raise her pride and joy, Jay Mark, and expose him to his many Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins.
Ms. Brooks worked in her field of dentistry upon her return home to Mobile for Dr. Roy Smith as a dental hygienist. Then, she began to work at Smith's Bakery, where she remained until retirement. Willie Mae purchased a beautiful home, provided an awesome life for her only son by allowing him to do almost whatever he wanted to do, which included being apart of the Mighty Marching John L. Leflore Rattlers Band and then going on to attend Tuskegee University.
She leaves to cherish her memories a son, Jay M. (Cheryl) Brooks, Los Angeles, CA; four grandchildren, Amira Brooks, Jai Brooks, Terrell Sykes, and DeMarcus Sykes, all of Atlanta, GA; one great-granddaughter, Paityn Sykes, Atlanta, GA; four sisters, Pearlene Reed, Eight Mile, AL; Mary (Henry) Sharpe, Eight Mile, AL; Gertrude Williams, Mobile, AL; and Fannie Brooks Wright, McDonough, GA; one sister-in-law, Ruth Brooks, Mobile, AL; several nieces and nephews; several cousins; two devoted young men that were just like sons, Robbie Bailey and Anthony Moultrie; and a host of other relatives and friends.
