Pamela Jo Byrd, 65, of Edwardsville, IL, died on Friday, June 14, 2019 at University Care center in Edwardsville with her family by her side.

She was born to Edwin and Mary (Fletcher) Byrd on July 20, 1954 who precede her in death.

My Auntie Pam decided to live with my Mom today. Although I am heartbroken, I am so glad that she is now in heaven living the life she should have had. We don’t know exactly what happened at birth but that put her into that special needs category. Ah, but truly special she was! She loved her sisters and brothers and all of her nieces and nephews. She lived in a group home for most of her life but she was able to work and loved it when she got quarters for her birthday so she could go to the vending machines during breaks. She loved her cowboy hats, traveling and was a St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan.

She went to Minnesota during the Great Auntie Adventure of 2017 and we will treasure that time together. Pam was the middle sister. 3 older and 3 younger and she made herself the center of attention. She and my Mom are whooping it up in heaven as we speak.

Pamela worked at Challenge Unlimited in Alton for many years and was a member of the Assembly of God in Meadowbrook.

She is survived by five sisters; Faye Dement (Charles), Cora Parker, Denise Herzberg (Mike), Frances “Fran” Abbett (Mike), Tammy Byrd, and many nieces and nephews.

Pamela is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers; Phillip “Mac” Byrd, Edwin F Byrd, and one sister; DeAnna Boganrief.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 21, 2019 from 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am at Elias Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton.

Inurnment will follow at Gullick Cemetery in Highland IL.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Special Olympics.
