Howard F. Murphy, 75, of Hickory Township, passed away the morning of June 14, 2019 surrounded by his loving family at his home.

Born June 8, 1944 in Meridian, Mississippi, he was the son of Howard T. Murphy and Clara (Butler) Murphy Gough.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carol (Reno) Murphy, whom he married on November 15, 1965.

Mr. Murphy was employed in maintenance with Pentex, formerly the Crane Company, prior to retiring from Quality Rolls where he was a finishing grinder.

In addition to coaching youth baseball, he also maintained the ball fields in the Laurel School area. He loved the outdoors, including hunting and fishing, and often enjoyed feeding animals, ducks and chickens. In his spare time he liked woodworking crafts, especially birdhouses, and was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves. He loved tending to his garden and sharing his harvests with friends and neighbors. Being born in the south, Howard was of Southern Baptist faith.

Anyone who knew Howard knew what a good hearted, caring person he was to all. He loved spending time with his family which was his greatest priority in life.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Lisa M. Perrino (Steve Voras, III), Patricia L. Black and Carol Penny (Anthony) Perry; two sons, Howard F. Murphy, Jr. (Susan Leshinsky) and Paul E. (Sandra) Murphy; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Elizabeth McKey (Jerry); 1 brother, Marlan Murphy (Claire) and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Otis T. Gough; two sisters, Mabel McGary and Polly Anthony; one brother, Clarence “Buddy” Murphy.

Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
