Elvina "Beanie"'s Obituary

Elvina “Beanie” Schaan, 87, of Harvey, ND died Friday, June 14, 2019 at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home in Harvey.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Harvey, ND. Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday with a Rosary/Prayer Service at 7 p.m. Monday at the Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, ND.

Elvina was born on September 21, 1931 at Barton, ND to Emil and Marion (Dahl) Peterson. She grew up in the Rugby area and graduated from Rugby High School in 1950. Beanie married Raymond Schaan on November 27, 1950 at Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby. They lived in Rugby and moved to Harvey in 1963. Beanie was a homemaker for several years before starting her career with World Book Encyclopedia. She served as the area, district and divisional manager for World Book and was recognized with numerous awards. She was a Life Member in the World Book 100 Club. Beanie and Ray moved to Fargo in 2006.

Ray died on January 13, 2008.
Beanie returned to an apartment in Harvey in 2011 and entered the St. Aloisius Nursing Home in 2016.

Beanie enjoyed reading, dancing and traveling. She loved to fish with her husband and grandchildren.

Beanie was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Eagles Auxiliary and was a Charter Member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

Beanie is survived by two daughters and two sons-in-law, Donna and Nick Bosh of Moorhead, Karla and Dustin Sawrey of Farmington, MN; four sons and one daughter-in-law, Charles of Sun Lakes, AZ, Keith of Bend, OR, Calvin of Harvey, Howard and Julie of Harvey; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Arnel Vicha of Coon Rapids, MN; Mila Hornstein of Devils Lake; brother, Maynard Dahl of Spencer, Iowa.

Beanie was preceded in death by her parents Emil and Marion; stepmother, Gladys Peterson; husband, Raymond; son, Bruce; grandson, Richard.
