Chad M. Curtis died May 14, 2009. Born Aug. 28, 1985, in Blue Hill, Chad lived a dynamic life, packed with adventures and explorations; you only have to ask a family member or friend, there is no shortage of Chad stories, for sure. A short list including ice fishing and duck hunting with Lloyd Astbury, perfecting his soccer skills with the help of Paul Lock, trick-or-treating in a Hershey Kiss outfit (and being a good sport about it), much to the delight of his Mom, and deer hunting with his Dad, only touch on the many dimensions of Chad’s adventurous and energetic side. On the other hand, Chad loved to read and his personal library was extensive. Anyone who asked him what he had read lately would likely have been impressed. His Ellsworth and Blue Hill library cards were always in his wallet. His most recent favorite readings were “The Story of Pi” and “The Shack.” Chad was blessed with both good looks and a charismatic personality, and he had a legendary sense of humor. Chad also had great hair, although he never seemed to know what to do with it stylewise. Chad loved Skittles and candy in general, and prided himself on “power-eating” a bag of Skittles in less than one minute. Chad was proud of his work at Cianbro, and clearly was bonded to his work buddies. Chad took his studies on being certified as an apprentice electrician very seriously. Chad also loved working on Happy Town Farm with Paul Volckhausen and the gang. Chad had a heart as big as the state of Maine, and those who knew him feel a deep sense of loss.

Chad is survived by a saddened but proud family including his father, Danner Curtis, and stepmother, Dewey Grindle Curtis, of Blue Hill; his mother, Jamie Sawyer McNeil, and stepfather, James S. McNeil, of Cape Elizabeth; his sister, Justine Curtis; stepbrother, B.J. Grindle of Blue Hill; grandparents Bob and Doris Curtis of Blue Hill; grandmother Mary Jane Sawyer of Ellsworth; and many special aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, at The First Baptist Church, Blue Hill.
