Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. Served in the Civil War as a Private in Company B, 20th Indiana Volunteer Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery on the Third Day of the Battle of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania (July 3,1863). His citation reads simply "Capture of flag of 21st North Carolina Infantry (C.S.A.)". His Medal was issued December 1, 1864.
