"Since I knew this was coming, I'm writing this myself. I passed away from ALS. While the last year and a half has been difficult, I had a great life! The greatest joy was helping raise my three children - Mack, Madeline and Charlotte. I'm so proud of them! I'm also real proud of Piedmont Disposal and Recycling, a company that I developed and ran for the last 20 years. My Dad, Jerry Long, passed away already. Thanks for everything, Dad. Surviving me are my three children, Mack, Madeline and Charlotte Long and my Mom, Marieanne Long. Thanks for everything, Mom. Also surviving me are my two brothers, Mike Long and Ken Long (Rita), my former wife, Jennie Hess and her husband, Terry. I want to give a special thanks to Harold Kinder, Jimmy "Hawk" Contreris and William Spencer. They all helped shape my life in important ways. Also, very special thanks to those who provided care and comfort for me in the recent past. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Bye for now. Kevin." The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Friday, June 7, 2019 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Clemmons with Fr. Michael Buttner officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow in the Family Center at Holy Family Catholic Church. A private interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Kevin asks that you make a donation to Trellis Hospice Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or the ALS Association, P.O. Box 37022, Boone, IA 50037-0022 to help those who are in need.
