Larry Goodwin, age 75 of Fredericksburg, Iowa, died Sunday, June 9, 2019, in Sumner, IA.

Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in Fredericksburg with Certified Celebrant Drew Johnson presiding at the service. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Fredericksburg.

Friends may greet the family from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.

Larry Dean Goodwin was born January 11, 1944 in Waterloo, IA, the son of Francis and Jenny (Hanson) Goodwin.

In 1955, his family moved to their farm near Fredericksburg. Larry went to school in Fredrika before transferring to Fredericksburg where he graduated from in 1962.

After graduation he worked making golf balls in Waterloo for a short period before enlisting in the United States Army. He served his time in Germany and truly enjoyed his time there. He was a tank driver and he also serviced the tanks and other heavy machinery. Larry always claimed to be claustrophobic which didn't add up with driving a tank. Larry enjoyed the daily life of serving in the military and loved the countless friends he made along the way.

He married Audrey Quass on December 10, 1988 in Fredericksburg at the United Peace Church.

He retired from John Deere after thirty years in September of 1974. In Larry's free time he enjoyed golfing, fishing trips to Canada, Colorado, Yellowstone and Texas. Audrey and Larry spent many winters in Texas and making new friends along the way. He also enjoyed hauling grain in the semi for Dean Rowe Trucking.

Larry is survived by his wife, Audrey of Fredericksburg, IA; one son, Edward (Jessica) Hartson of Cedar Falls, IA; mother-in-law, Rosie Quass of Frederika, IA; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Romana Roeder, Portia Moon; father-in-law, Wayne Quass; sister-in-law, Kristy Ogilvie.
