JAMES BRASSFIELD, son of ABNER and MAHALA JOHSON BRASSFIELD, was born 25 Sep 1844 near old Lindley died at home norh of Browning MO 29 Oct 1937. A Civil War veteran and farmer. Reared by uncle SAMPSON JOHNSON being left an orphan age 2. Enlisted in Co E 44th MO Inf. 14 Aug 1866. Married RACHEL HOOVER who died 20 July 1906. 6 children, SAMUEL C. of Seletz OR; PRESTON died 7 Jan 1931; JOHN EDWARD died 12 June 1881; ELIZABETH HOSELTON, PARSON H. and JAMES WARNER all of Browning. Burial Hoover Cemetery.

Served in the Civil War, Union 44th Reg. MO. Vol. Inf, Co E as a PVT
