In 2006 he retired from Olde Heritage Realtors, Inc., where he was a rental manager.
John was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, New Holland, where he was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 13451.
John was a charter member of the Garden Spot Midget Athletic Association. For 25 years he umpired baseball and refereed soccer for Midget programs, high schools and colleges in Lancaster County and El Paso, TX.
John graduated from New Holland High School Class of 1955. While in high school, he earned 11 varsity letters in sports. He was elected to the Lancaster City and County Soccer All Star Team for three years and was named the Outstanding Soccer Player for 1954 during his senior year.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Deborah J., wife of Nevin Good, Annville, PA, Denise “Dennie” M. Stone, wife of Clete Stone, New Holland, and Dee-Anne P. Baxter, wife of Randy Baxter, Glendale, AZ; one son, David J. Flora, New Holland; two sisters, Joan Martin, Columbia, and Jane Herr, New Holland; five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were two brothers, Tom and Barry Flora, and a son, Darryl W. Flora, who passed in 2003.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 28, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 150 Water Street, New Holland, with Rev. Father Walter Guzman officiating. Viewings will be held at the Beck Funeral Home, 315 E. Main St., New Holland, on Friday, Feb. 27, from 6 – 8 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10-11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to St. Vincent de Paul Society, c/o Our Lady of Lourdes, address above.
