Barbara Sue Bruce, 76, of West Frankfort went to meet Jesus and see her Heavenly home on June 10, 2019, after a brave battle with cancer. Surrounded by family and friends, her fighting spirit was eveident until the end.
She was born on November 27, 1942 in Parrish, Illinois to William and Virgnia (Eubanks) Smothers.
Barbara married the love of her life, Warren Bruce on June 28, 1965.
Together they shared over 43 years of marriage before his passing in 2009.
Barbara worked as a restaurant cook and motel maid in her younger years, but spent the majority of her life helping care for her family and friends. She loved playing Bingo, watching wrestling and NASCAR, and most importantly spending time with her family and her fur baby, Sparkle.
Barbara is survived by her daughter and son-in-law ; Her grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister; 3 special friends who were like her adopted children; several nieces and nephews; cousins; and her fur baby Sparkle.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Warren; her parents William (Mary) Smothers and Virginia (Otto) Svoboda; a sister Clara June, and her maternal grandmother, Eva Summers.
Even though she has gone on to Glory, her spirit will live on in the many lives she touched during her time on this Earth.
Funeral services will be held Saturday June 15, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the Union Funeral Home in West Frankfort with her Grandson Ben Wyant officiating. Burial will be in Plasters Grove Cemetery in Thompsonville, Vistiation will be from Noon until 2:00 pm at the funeral home prior to the service.
