Proud to do his part in service to his country, John enlisted with the United States Army at the age of 22. Inducted on November 30, 1950 he served the next two years before transferring to the Army Reserves, serving four more years until his honorable discharge in August of 1956.
While in St. Louis, Mo., John met the love of his life, Marlene Hawkins and the young couple married on August 12, 1950. They lived in New Jersey, where John was stationed at Ft. Mammoth Army Base then later made the move back to St. Louis. In 1966 John accepted a job at Wagner Electric in Brinkley. They became long time residents, and remained a vital part of the community. In times of worship he attended the St. John The Baptist Catholic Church. Through the years their home was blessed with the four sons. For the next 62 years they shared in the joys of seeing them mature and begin families of their own. Sadly the family experienced Marlene's passing on August 27, 2012.
