Mrs. Ruby Dodson Porter, 93, passed away on June 11, 2019 at Trinity Elms Health and Rehab. She was born on April 17, 1926 to Warner Dodson and Bertha Cox Dodson in Rockingham County. Ruby was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed her bridge club for over 50 years. She was also an avid PGA fan, having been introduced to the sport by her late husband, a talented golfer. An expert gardener, Ruby could revive any plant or flower with her green thumb. Ruby will be remembered as a happy homemaker and loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Porter, Sr.; and sisters, Inez Dodson, Ella Tsumas, and Louise Manuel. Surviving are her son, Leon “Bunky” Porter, Jr. (Mary); daughter, Sherry Lee Porter (David); grandchildren, Dara and Brandon Porter, Mark Porter (Tiffany), Meredith Means (Will), Matthew Porter (Sarah), Michael Porter (Emma); great grandchildren, Ashlyn, Porter, Will, Ruby, Tripp, Leo, Wyatt, and Ellie; a sister, Vivian Weatherman; many nieces and nephews and a special friend, Trina. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, June 14, 2019 at Forsyth Memorial Park. A memorial service will follow at 12:00 noon, at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Tim Norton and Rev.
