John W. “Jay” Kitterman, age 88, passed away at Warrensburg Manor Care Center in Warrensburg, Missouri on June 8, 2019.
Jay was born on October 18, 1930 in Warrensburg, MO the son of Andrew and Mabel (Barnes) Kitterman.
He attended Warrensburg public schools and Central Missouri State College.
While in high school and college he worked at the Star Theatre as an usher. He then accepted a position at the Daily Star-Journal as a stenotype operator.
In 1952-1954 he served in the Third Marine Corps Division. After boot camp at Camp Pendleton, California, he was assigned to Camp McNair, a tent city-style training base at the foot of Mt. Fuji in Japan, in mid-winter.
After completing his military service, he returned to the Daily Star-Journal, working first as a Linotype operator and then advancing to a position in advertising sales.

He also served a term as Vice President of the National Kitterman Family Association.
In 1954 he married Dolores Mansur Kitterman.
Jay is survived by his wife Dolores (Mansur) Kitterman, and daughter Jaylene (Michael) O’Keefe of Independence, MO.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at 2 PM at Sweeney-Phillips and Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg. Interment will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery with full military honors. Honorary pallbearers include Marion Clark, Bruce Howey, Bruce Smith, Gene Burden and Keith Sproat.
The family will receive friends from 1 PM until service time at the funeral home. Memorial contributions to Dialysis Clinic, Inc. of Warrensburg or the American Diabetes Association can be left in care of the funeral home.
