Ronald Martin Shelton, 78, of 1809 Sherwood Place in Kingsport, moved to his heavenly home on Friday evening, June 7th. Ron was born April 28, 1941 to John and Ruth Hibbler Shelton of Renovo Pennsylvania and has resided in Kingsport since 1990; moving here to operate the Kingsport True Value Hardware Store on Eastman Road for 10 years. Prior to purchasing the store, he worked 20 years for Stone and Webster Engineering Corporation as a Piping Construction Supervisor. Ron’s work moved him to many areas of the country, but he settled on Kingsport as the place to raise his two youngest children with his wife of 38 years, Nancy.

Ron is remembered for his wonderful ability to find the humorous side of life and he was able to weave a story into every conversation. His spontaneous moments brought much fun and laughter to those who knew him. Even through his failing health of the prior ten years, he never wavered in his faith and often testified of his love for Jesus to people he met in his wheelchair on the way to dialysis.

He is survived by his wife Nancy Whelply Shelton and four children: Christopher Shelton of Williamsport, PA; Cory Shelton and his wife Amanda of Crosby, TX; Nathan Shelton and his wife Erica of Johnson City, and Regina Shelton of Nashville, TN. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Ava and Logan of Crosby, TX and Levi and Samuel of Johnson City. He is preceded in death by his daughter Melinda Shelton Jamal and brother John “Johnny Pete" Shelton.

A memorial service to celebrate Ron’s life will be held at the Southview Community Church, 1235 Moreland Drive, Kingsport, TN, on Tuesday, June 11th at 7: 00 pm; pastor Bill Willis leading. The family will receive friends at the church from 6:00-7:00.

Many thanks to the Kingsport Area Transit personnel who took Ron to dialysis three days a week and many times went above their job description to show their love for him. Thank you to the special staff members at Cornerstone Village who treated him not only as a patient but a friend. And most of all thank you to our church family at Southview Community Church; your prayers and love have sustained us these past few years.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Southview Community Church, PO Box 5055, Kingsport, TN 37663, in support of youth ministries.
