James H. Hoff July 27th, 1923 - May 23rd, 2012
Jim passed away May 23rd, 2012, surrounded by his daughters, at the age of 88 years old.
Jim was born in Tacoma July 27th, 1923, where he lived his entire life. One of five brothers, he graduated from Stadium High School in 1941.
Joined the Navy October 1942, served on the U.S. Porter until it was sunk by a kamikaze in Okinawa on June 9th, 1945, served then on board the U.S. Laffey in Pearl Harbor, then discharged January, 1946.
Jim worked for the phone company for the next 36 years. In January 1947, Jim and Muriel Ward were married. The Korean War broke out and he was recalled in October 1950, went to Korea for a year on USS Blue and then was discharged February 1952.
Jim loved to fish, golf, garden, and run marathons. Jim's wife, Muriel, of 51 years, passed away in 1998. He is survived by his three daughters, Kathy Gross (Dennis), Carol Sigman (Mark), and Pauli Finnigan (Jeff), eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and his brother Roger. Sami Jones, his companion of 12 years, whom he loved very much, made the last years of his life wonderful.
There will be a private family and friends gathering.
