Hodges, Melvin Lee “Mel”
Belleville, MI
Age 81, passed away Sunday, June 2, 2019 following an extended illness with his wife Sandy, sister Patricia and niece Dawn by his side. He was born April 29, 1938 in Flint, the son of Edmond M. and Helen M. (Weatherwax) Hodges.
Mel served honorably in the U.S. Air Force for four years. He worked for General Motors, Ypsilanti plant for 32 years, retiring in 1992. He then worked for Ed Rose and Sons for 25 years, retiring in 2017.
Mel was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Belleville and past Governor of the Ypsilanti Moose Lodge #782. He enjoyed riding his Harley, bowling and collecting coins. He had an incredible sense of humor and was an animal lover.
The family would like to give a special thanks to their dear friend Margie Grubaugh.
Survivors include: his wife Sandy Ainley; two children Mel (Loretta) Hodges Jr. and Carrie Brown; four grandchildren; three sisters, Jacqueline Irish, Patricia Hagerman and Yvonne Burns; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral service will be 11 am Saturday June 8, 2019 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 11575 Belleville Road, Belleville with Rev. Sally Boelter officiating. Burial will follow in Union-Udell Cemetery. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Humane Society of Huron Valley. Envelopes are available at Stark Funeral Service where the family will greet friends 5-8 pm Friday and at the church from 10 am until time of service Saturday.
