From "The Daily Northwestern" (Oshkosh, WI), March 28, 1893
"Neenah, Wis., March 28 - A telegram has been received in this city announcing the death in Boulder, Cal., of one of the prominent and most respected citizens of Neenah. Mr. Sheldon Atwell Hale. He left home a week ago last Saturday night for the west to attend to his mining interests in California. He too a cold before he reached there, and when he arrived he was obliged to summon medical aid. Acute pneumonia set in at once and before anything was done to check it it was too late. Mrs. Hale was telegraphed last Friday that her husband was very ill, and Saturday night she left with her daughter Fannie hoping to reach him in time to be of some assistance. He died yesterday morning and Mrs. Hale and daughter arrived three hours later. They started back at once with the remains and are expected to arrive here tomorrow evening. The funeral will be held at the house Thursday afternoon at two o'clock. Rev. J.E. Chapin will officiate."
