Dean Truman Larson, 66, of Grant Park, died on Saturday, September 19, 2015, at Presence St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee, IL.
He was born on October 14, 1948 in Kankakee, IL, the son of Truman and Ruth Thompson Larson.
He married Carol Hamann on July 24, 1971, in Grant Park, IL. She survives.
He is survived by his two daughters and son-in-law; Cara Larson of Momence, IL, and Colleen and Mario LaGesse of Kankakee, IL. Four grandchildren; Olivia Larson, Daniel, Nathan and Alena LaGesse. Also surviving is a sister, Beverly Larson of Momence, IL.
He was the ideal family man. He loved his wife, children and extended family with all his heart. He made them laugh with his clever one-liners. He led with his heart in all that he did and his genuine kindness came through to all he met.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister; Judy Uknavage.
He is retired from Applied Systems in University Park, IL. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Grant Park, IL, and served as a trustee. He served in the United States Army receiving the Vietnam Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal with three overseas bars. Even though he was fighting such a difficult battle he always remained strong and optimistic without feeling sorry for himself.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution can be made to the Senior Citizens Group of the United Methodist Church of Grant Park, IL.
Visitation and funeral services will be Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2015 from 3-8 p.m. at the Cotter Funeral Home Chapel in Momence. The Momence Honor Guard will provide military rites following the service, and Rev. Herbert Thompson will officiate.
