She was united in marriage to John Van Dyke on December 21, 1951 in Watertown, South Dakota. After their marriage she was employed at the Estelline Sewing Factory and later at Allstate Lawn Products in Watertown. She retired in 1988. John died on December 11, 1992 and Helen continued to live in Castlewood until entering the Jenkins Living Center in Watertown in 2004. She died there on Tuesday, Decembe 12, 2006 at the age of 81 years, 2 months and 23 days.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Castlewood where she was a member of the choir for many years. She was also a member of the Rebecca Lodge for several years and she enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting.
Grateful for having shared her life are two sons, Robert Barnes and his wife Kathleen of Billings, MT, Kim Van Dyke and his wife Linda of Chester, MT; one daughter, Orla Ries and her husband Melvin of Watertown, SD; 15 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; one sister Della Aronson of Castlewood; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
