Mary Lois Stultz, age 86, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday morning, August 14, 2017. A lifelong resident of Sheridan, Indiana, Mary Lois was born on December 16, 1930 to the late Euler D. and Flora Lois (Barker) Sutton. After graduating from Sheridan High School with the Class of 1948, she would further her studies at Ball State University earning her Undergraduate and Master's Degrees in Education.

Mary Lois began her teaching career in Pine Village, Indiana working with 3rd and 4th grade students. She would later begin teaching in the Marion-Adams (now Sheridan) school system, teaching 3rd and 4th grade at Marion Township Elementary before moving to Adams Elementary to finish her career teaching Kindergarten. In between her teaching responsibilities, Mary Lois found time to raise a wonderful family, including several foreign exchange students through the Sheridan Rotary Club.

Family was a very important part of her life, and that included her church family as well. Mary Lois was very active within the Sheridan First Christian Church, where she served as a deaconess and a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was also very active in the Hope Circle and Christian Women's Fellowship, as well as serving on committees for Worship, Christian Outreach and Christian Action. Mary Lois was very honored to serve on the voting delegation to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Regional and National Assemblies. Many life events were shared and celebrated within her church family, including meeting the gentleman who would become her husband. She first met Jim when his father was preaching at the church. Jim and Mary Lois would be married on June 29, 1952. He would precede her in death on July 28, 2011.

Mary Lois was also a member of the Sheridan Symposium Club and was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow with the Sheridan Rotary Club. She loved being out in the garden and tending to her flowers. She also enjoyed arts and crafts, of which crocheting was one of her favorites. A wonderful cook, she was well known for her apple butter, apple sauce and her pies. Mary Lois also loved angels, and to many at Sheridan Healthcare, she was just that. For many years, she very humbly and very quietly volunteered her time, looking after individuals, both young and old, who were in desperate need of a friend.

Mary Lois is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Joan Griffiths (Bill) of Sheridan; daughter in law, Sue Turner Stultz of Sheridan 2; grandsons, Paul Jacob Stultz (Melissa) of Sheridan and Nathan Alan Stultz (Maria) of Memphis, Indiana; 2 granddaughters, Amanda Colleen Turner and Elizabeth Sidney Turner, both of Noblesville; 7 great grandchildren, Grayson James Stultz, Hadley Rae Stultz, Sabrina Jo Stultz, Mary Jean Stultz, Atlas Dean Western, Victoria Givens and Jamie Givens; her sister in law, Jesslyn Sutton of Sheridan; her many nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly; and by her "chosen" grandchildren, Ben Sutherland of Sheridan, Elizabeth Sutherland of Sheridan and Sarah Sutherland of Japan. She is also survived by the many children she looked after throughout the years who were lucky enough to have an "extra grandma".

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Murray Stultz; 2 sons, J. Thomas Stultz and Tim A. Stultz; and her brother, Charles Richard "Sonny" Sutton.
