Calvin Ralph Tanner, 71, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at his home. He was born July 9, 1947 in Murray, Utah to Jared Reno and Helen Mallory Tanner.

Calvin graduated from Murray High School in 1965, later graduated from the LDS Business College and attended the University of Utah.

He married his high school sweetheart, Claudia LaVona Hansen on April 1, 1967. The couple was sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple in 1992.

Calvin proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1970 at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, Montana, as a minuteman missile mechanic and missile maintenance instructor. He retired from Hill Air Force Base in Ogden, Utah, after 38 years as a minuteman missile production manager.

He held numerous positions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including Cub Scout master, assistant scout master, ward finance clerk, ward membership clerk, ward mission leader, assistant high priest group leader, ward executive secretary, and Sunday school president. He also served in his stake’s Sunday school presidency.

His greatest accomplishment in his life was his family, whom he deeply loved and was very proud of. He is survived by his wife, Claudia, and their four children: Troy (Evon), Toree (Mark), Kara (Sheldon) and Rachel (John). He is also survived by his brother, Keith; his grandchildren, Jordan, Mickenzi (Josh), Adriana (Wesley), Tremayne, Breiton, Loghan, Alexander, Olivia and Roman; and his great-grandchildren, Serenity, Clarity, Johnie and Kevin. Calvin was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ronald.

Next to his family, Calvin’s greatest joys in life were camping, fishing and traveling. He visited the mountains across Utah often, spending countless summer weekends sleeping in a tent and sitting next to a lake.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at the Roy 9th Ward Chapel, 4250 South 2175 West.
