She was born in Ardmore, Oklahoma on December 7, 1933. She attended The Hockaday School in Dallas, Mary Baldwin College in Virginia, and graduated from The University of Oklahoma where she was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority.
Rae Rader married William Richard Smith in Ardmore on August 12, 1958, and was married to Bill for 34 years until he passed away in 1993.
Rae was Bill's strength through his battle with colon cancer and his companion in life. She loved painting, both watercolor and oil, bridge, and, most of all, her multitude of pets over the years.
Rae was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, parents Earl and Ruth, brother Robin and of course her pets…. Caesar, Sasha, Shamis, Muffin, Boots, Holly, Fluff, Velvet, Buttons II and Buttons.
She is survived by her sons, Steve and his wife Tonya and Scott and his wife Katie, as well as grandchildren Zachary, Madeline, Kelsie and Rader.
Rae was a wonderful, fun and creative mother, grandmother, wife and friend and she will be missed by all.
Memorial services will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Tulsa, located at 709 S. Boston Avenue, on Friday October 1, 2010, at 3 PM. In lieu of flowers, Rae asked that donations be made to ClareHouse of Tulsa, www.clarehouse.org, or Animal Aid of Tulsa, www.animalaid.org.
