EDWARDS, Lucy Allen, 89, of Mechanicsville, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2019, at Memorial Regional Hospital after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cordie and Maurice Allen; brothers, George and James Allen. She is survived by her devoted husband of 68 years, Lloyd Edwards; her children, Faye Williamson (Jed), Debra Edwards (Jerry) and Lloyd Edwards Jr. (Ilona). She is also survived by three grandchildren, Katie Lafon (Ricky), Raymond Williamson (Joy) and Courtney Weir (Rob); three great-grandchildren, Aaron, Jadon and Riley; and a fourth on his way; and many nieces and nephews. Lucy was a member of North Run Baptist Church for 58 years, and worked at Staples Mill Road Baptist Church in the Child Development Center for over 15 years. She served the God she loved so much by loving and serving others. She was a kind and caring friend to many. She lived her life by these words, "it's never wrong to be kind." The family will receive friends on Friday, June 7, 2019, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in the West Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad Street, Glen Allen, and again one hour prior to the service. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 8, 2019, at 11 a.m., at North Run Baptist Church, 2100 Lydell Drive, Richmond. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. in the Salem Baptist Church Cemetery, 24032 Sparta Road, Milford, Va. The family would like to thank the staff of Autumn Care of Mechanicsville and Memorial Regional Hospice for their care and support. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to North Run Baptist Church General Fund or Salem Baptist Church Cemetery Trust Fund.
