Elsie Ring was born January 22, 1916, the daughter of William and Amelia Ring of Langdon. They lived in the Dresden area where she attended school. She married Louie Backes on January 22, 1935 in Langdon. They farmed in the Osnabrock area and later moved to Osnabrock where they owned Backes Locker and Grocery from 1960 - 1974.
She is survived by her children, Marlene Stremick, Jeanette Wedwick, Lenore Newland, Jolene Eudy, Marilyn Smith, Wayne Backes, William Backes, Jo Mary Fischer and Kurtis Backes and one sister, Margaret Ertmann.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Dennis; brothers, George, Edward, Philip and William; and two sisters, Alida Bergley and Mary Heimbecker.
