Sister Elaine Buckley, RSM, age 97, a member of the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at McAuley Convent in Merion, Pennsylvania.

She is pre-deceased by her parents William and Helen and brother, Thomas. In addition to her religious community, S. Elaine is survived by her brothers, Donald and William, and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Sister celebrated her 80 years as a Sister of Mercy on May 18, 2019 at the community Jubilee Celebration with family and friends.

Sister Elaine taught in both Elementary and Secondary education in the archdioceses of Philadelphia, PA and Atlanta, Georgia. Sister's longest teaching experience was at Cardinal Dougherty High School. As a former leading Hallahan basketball player she enjoyed supporting and following the girls' basketball team at Cardinal Dougherty. The Philadelphia Phillies had an enthusiastic and faithful fan in Sister Elaine.

In her retiring years she was excited to continue God's work in a variety of ways. That enthusiasm was found when she joined the Clown Ministry and became a member of the Support Staff at Mercy Community Hospital and Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital. Sister Elaine moved to McAuley convent in 2011 where her love for life, for joy and good times permeated her new community. Remembering S. Elaine brings a smile to one's face.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Visitation Tuesday, June 11, 10:00 - 11:00 am followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 am in the Chapel at the Convent of Mercy, 515 Montgomery Avenue, Merion Station, PA 19066. Burial in the community cemetery will immediately follow.
