Charlotte Marie Butler, age 79, of Richfield Springs, passed away on Thursday morning April 21, 2016 in Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown. She had the support and comfort of her loving family at her side.
Charlotte was born on January 24, 1937, in Cooperstown, daughter of the late Robert and Mary Robinson Klem. A lifelong Richfield Springs resident she was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School. On November 9, 1957, she was united in marriage with Donald A. Butler in the Richfield Springs Presbyterian Church. At one time, Mrs. Butler had worked as a telephone operator for the New York Telephone Company in Richfield Springs. For twenty five years she and her husband owned and operated Klem Liquor Store in Richfield Springs and for five years was employed by Shur-Catch. She retired in 1999.
Charlotte enjoyed a physically active life style. She was a member of the Clarks Gym where she participated in the swimming program. She also found much pleasure in bowling.
Surviving are her husband of fifty-nine years Donald, a son, Donald S. of De Ruyter, a daughter Liza M. Butler of 4th Lake, three brothers, Bobby Klem and his wife Joan of Richfield Springs, David Klem and his wife Jean of Tully, Charles Klem of 4th Lake, two sisters, Betty Frazer and her husband Bob of Canton, Marna Armstrong of Unadilla forks, two grandchildren Loren and Tyler Butler and one great-grandchild Fulton Butler, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a sister Connie Klem.
The family will be present in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home on Thursday from 3:00 until 5:00 pm to receive relatives and friends. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home at 5:00 p.m. with Pastor Alan Miller officiating.
Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
