He was the youngest of 13 children and was adored and spoiled by his closest sisters, Doris, Jessie and Esther and was best friends with his closest brother RB.
In 1949 he joined the Navy and was proud of his service on the USS Hickox in the Korean War.
On a quick trip home to Abilene in December 1951, he was introduced to Jamie Louise Wallace. It must have been love at first sight because they were married a week later and, through all the ups and downs, loved each other for the rest of their lives.
Jerry was very proud of his 4 children Sherrill Hampson (Jay), Pamela Slaughter (David) Eileen Hendricks who preceded in death, Scott Hendricks (Tamara). He has 4 granchildren Rebekah Crowley, Zak Crowley, Justin Hendricks and Cole Hendricks. 3 great grandchildren Katelyn Crowley, Austin Crowley and Grayson Crowley
Jerry was an active member of the Masons in Roswell, NM and started their annual Fishing Camp for children of all ages to learn to fish, a sport he loved. In early years Jerry loved wandering the countryside finding arrowheads and following legends of buried treasure. In later years he loved reading westerns of that time. Jerry loved family, his church, the Bible, the Masons, hunting and fishing and just being outdoors.
A memorial was held in Milledgeville GA and his ashes will be placed with his beloved Jamie on Friday, June 8th 2019.
