One of the family tradition handed down is the Richardson Family is that the first Richardson family to come to American was disinherited by his father back in England because he married an Indian maiden. The Richardson son lost, according to lengend, his right of succession to his father's title and inheritance.

Early Louisiana Settlers From Georgia by Russ Williams, Jr. Bogalusa Louisiana: "Little Bulloch Co, GA [sic] in Washington Parish, LA." "In the closing years of the first decade of Eighteen Hundred, a vast migration of settlers came into the section Louisiana that is now Washington Parish. The migrants for the most part were from Bulloch County, Georgia. Many of the present day historians of Louisiana are inclined to call this settlement "Little Bulloch County". Many of the families that were so well known in Georgia in the early 1800's became the foundation for the Anglo Saxon stock in the mentioned vicinity. These names were Albritton, Harrell, Kent, Mizell, Pool, Richardson, Sibley, and Williams. The generation that migrated into Louisiana was one generation removed from that that was a migrant to Georgia from other parts. Many of the early settlers of Effingham [sic], Screven and Bulloch were of North Carolina stock, as was the case for the Richardson family.

Betsey Morris's husband Stephen Richardson, b. ca. 1794, d. ca. 1845, was the oldest son of Hardy Richardson and Fanny Mizell. It has been assumed that Hardy and Fanny were "first cousins," but further research has proven that they were not related. Fanny Mizell Richardson, was the daughter of David Mizell, a brother of Sarah Mizell, the wife of Benjamin Richardson, Hardy's father.... Hardy Richardson, husband of Fanny Mizell, was the son of Benjamin Richardson by his first wife Ann Jones, who died in Edgecome Co, North Carolina, shortly before Benjamin's second marriage in 1767, in Tyrrell County, North Carolina. Ann Jones was the Dau of John Jones who died in Edgecombe Co., NC, ca. 1757, leaving a Last Will & Testament (NC State Wills) in which he named his daughter Ann Richardson. This Ann Jones Richardson had to be the mother of Benjamin's four older sons. Records of Edgecombe prove that Ann was the wife of Benjamin Richardson. Some books which mention the Richardson Ancestry gave this information, but these compilers made one fantastic error- the made Ann Jones Richardson the mother of her husband!

From there he migrated to Louisiana via Georgia. He obtained a passport in 1805 (passports were required in those days if one intended to travel through indian territory). He settled in "Feliciana Country" - now known as East Feliciana Parish and West Feliciana Parish. Ben's home was locted in the Wast Feliciana section. "Ben was married twice...this is a known fact...but there has been a "little tale" passed down through the family that "Ben had married to an Indian girl and was disinherited for doing so"...leaving the question ...that still remains ...was Ben married three times instead of only twice? Some say: "If Ben was married three times...then the Indian girl was definitely the first wife"..but if true, the marriage did not last...or, she died very shortly after the marriage took place...leaving no known children...because it is the general belief that all of Ben's children had the same mother...and that mother was believed to be named Sarah. (Sarah Moody?) Ben and his last wife, Edy, had no children."
