The Philip Young family is listed in the 1810 and 1820 U.S. Censuses for Lincoln County, North Carolina. Land records show Philip purchased land in Georgia in 1825, to include land in Habersham County. Sometime around 1825 the family moved to Habersham County, Georgia and they are listed in the 1830 U.S. Census for that county. In the 1840 U.S. Census the Philip Young family is still in Habersham County (in District 501), although only the two youngest sons are still living with Philip and his wife Charity.

Marriage records for North Carolina show Philip Young marrying Charity Abernathy (1783 - 1860) in Lincoln County on 12 January 1802 (another record places the date as 12 October 1802). A OneWorldTree (Ancestry.com) file lists Philip and Charity's children as John J. (1803 - 1840), Philip M. (1805 - 1848), Rufus Littleton (1808 - 1849), Asenath Denita (1811 - 1884), Franklin Monroe (1818 - 1858), William Daniel (1821 - 1870), and David Abernathy (1823 - 1848).

Further research is needed to verify the specific dates listed above. It is noted that Charity Young moved from Habersham County following Philip's death in 1848. The 1850 U.S. Census for Cherokee County, Alabama lists Charity (and son William D.) living with the family of her daughter Asenath Hughes. All three are also listed in the 1860 U.S. Census for Cherokee County.

The Habersham County Cemetery Database lists Philip Young's burial site as "Goshen Mountain Road Cemetery." This Database lists Philip's son David Abernathy (who died a month after Philip) as being buried in "Old Clarkesville Cemetery." It is unknown why they were buried apart.
