Sgt. 1st Class Christopher D. Henderson of Hillsboro, Oregon grew up in Hillsboro and attended Glencoe High School where he competed in track and field events. He enlisted in the Army after high school and made his life and career in the Army. He quickly rose through the ranks. He attended Airborne School at Fort Benning, Ga. Then he attended air assault school at Ft. Campbell, Ky. He then went to school to become a drill sergeant at Fort Jackson, S.C. He was deployed to Florida during one of the hard-hitting hurricanes in the early 1990s and he also policed the streets in Panama City. He also was deployed to Kuwait for a tour, as well as Egypt, Kosovo and Bosnia, and had been sent to Afghanistan in January 2007. He was scheduled to have a leave in August before winding up his tour in February 2008. Chris was a loving husband, father, son, and brother. He loved motorcycles, diving, fishing, camping, and was an avid Star Wars and Superman and Smallville fan. He died June 17, 2007 while serving in Afghanistan at age 35.
