Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Butcher, age 91 years, a resident of Buckhannon and more recently of the Barbour County Good Samaritan Society went home to be with the Lord early Monday morning June 3, 2019 in the care facility. Death was following a period of declining health.

She was born November 24, 1927, at Upshur County, a daughter of the late Clifford Smith and Lillie Smith Gifford. On May 14, 1950 she was united in marriage to Howard Butcher, who preceded her in death on September 11, 1971.

She is survived by one daughter; Shelia Tallman and husband Jim of Belington, two sons; Emiel “Butch” Butcher and wife Alexis of Buckhannon and Dewayne Butcher and wife Marianne of Tampa, Florida, one son-in-law; Ronald Paugh of Goldsboro, NC, two sisters; Sue Berkenstock and husband Terry of Williston, SC and Margie Waugh and husband Dan of Jacobsburg, OH, two brothers; Arnold Smith and wife Ellen of Cleveland, TX and Blaine Smith of Belmont, OH, three grandsons; Brent Tallman and wife Krista of Belington, Jordan Butcher of Seattle, WA, and Jacob Paugh and wife Allison of Goldsboro, NC, two granddaughters; Paige Daniels and husband Drew of Richmond, VA and Brittany Bennett and husband Matt of Buckhannon, twelve great grandchildren; Kendra Johnson, Camela Tallman, Samuel Tallman, Caden Paugh, Maxton Paugh, Avery Moyer, Ella Moyer, Jackson Moyer, Emberlee Bennett, Abilene Bennett, Nash Daniels and Lux Daniels, a special nephew; Matthew Canter. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one daughter; Brenda Paugh, one sister; Phyllis Kendrick.

Mary attended the schools of Upshur County and was a lifelong member and former intern pastor of the Faith Tabernacle in Buckhannon. She worked for the Upshur County Senior Center in elder care for many years, was a devoted mother, and homemaker. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home 56 N Brandenburg Street in Belington on Saturday June 8, 2019 from 6-9pm and again on Sunday June 9, 2019 from 8 am –2:30 pm the funeral hour when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Pastor Jerry Murrell and Rev. Jim Tallman officiating. Interment will follow in the Mount Carmel Cemetery at Buckhannon. The Talbott Funeral Home of Belington is in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Butcher.
