Master Sargent Edward “Sarge” Robert Barnes, 70, of Hixson, passed away June 3, 2019.

He retired as a Master Sargent in the United States Army and proudly served in the Special Forces as a Green Beret. Later he retired from teaching JROTC at Soddy Daisy High School, most recently he had been working part-time at Food City in Dallas Bay. Sarge was a faithful and active member of the Dallas Bay Baptist Church.

His parents, Harvey and Maude Barnes and a sister, Sandra Sedgwick, preceded him in death.

He was survived by his wife of forty seven years, Mary F. Barnes; two daughters, Heather N. Francis and husband, Shawn, Brandy M. Owen and husband, Greg; four grandchildren, Kristen Kirk, Brandon Wise, Hannah Owen and Lainey Francis; great-grandkids, Jackson Kirk, Callahan Kirk and Marynn Kirk; along with his siblings, Bill Barnes, Roy Barnes and wife, Della, George Barnes and wife, Roberta, Jenny Sterling and Anna Frantum

Visitation is 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday. Services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 10, 2019 at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home with Rev. David McNabb officiating. Burial will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery with Military Honors.
