George Edgar Bates, III, 62, passed away on June 4, 2019 at Life Brite Community Hospital of Early. His funeral will be held on Friday, June 7, 2019, at 10 a.m. at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Sterling Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Bush Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Keith Durham, John Earnest, Cortez Wimberly, Buddy Jenkins, Josh Roberts and Lee Reed. The honorary pallbearers will his grandchildren. The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, June 6, 2019, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Manry Jordan Hodges Funeral Home.
George was born on March 21, 1957 in Early County, GA, to the late George Edgar Bates, Jr. and Marie Elizabeth Jenkins Bates of Blakely, GA. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and Retired Plant Manager for Golden Peanut Company. Other than his father he was preceded in death by a grandson, Lottyn Bates.
His survivors other than his mother, include his wife, Nancy Bell White Bates, a son, George Edgar Bates, IV and his wife Megan of Tifton, GA, one daughter, Anamarie Hall and husband Sean of Colquitt, GA. He is also survived by one brother, Burt Bates and wife Vicki, four sisters; Melissa Pope of Bainbridge, GA, Jeanette Kelley and husband Larry of Prattville, AL, Betty Meredith and husband Terry of Blakely, GA, and Marie Pyle and husband Jim of Blakely, GA.; five grandchildren, Caleb, Dru and Ethan Hall, Parker Bates and Lily Grace Bates and one great grandson, Wylden James Hall.
