Regina Helene Myers (nee Zalewski), age 92, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2020 at Ascension Hospital in Franklin, WI surrounded by her loving family.
She leaves behind her devoted husband of 61 years, George Myers, two sons; Tony (Ellen) Myers of Franklin WI and Bill (Jodi) Myers of Hales Corners WI, and seven grandchildren; Bree Watral of Milwaukee WI, Kristine Watral of Evanston IL, Ariana Myers of Princeton NJ, Logan Myers of Minneapolis MN, Brian Myers of Franklin WI, Morgan Myers and Kaylee Myers of Hales Corners WI.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jeanette and Walter Zalewski of Hamtramck MI, a sister Gertrude Kosowski of Detroit MI, a brother Harold Parkison of Dyer Indiana, and beloved daughter Jeanette (Wayne) Watral of Webster WI.
Regina was born in Detroit MI on Valentine’s Day in 1927. She was orphaned at an early age and was raised by an aunt. She worked for Michigan Bell Telephone Co., where she met the love of her life, George Myers. They married in 1958. In 1969 they moved to Iron Mountain, MI with their three children. In 1970 they bought a farm in the Buck Lake District near Alpha, MI. They spent 42 wonderful years on the farm. Thanks to the help of friendly neighbors, they learned to raise many farm animals, including Regina’s favorites – goats.
She was an active member of St. Edwards church in Alpha, then Guardian Angels church in Crystal Falls, participating in many activities such as making pasties, choir, eucharistic minister, teaching CCD and prayer groups. She developed the God’s Garden program to teach children about God. She also volunteered as a 4H leader and participated in Crystal Falls Community Theatre. Her best-known acting role was George Burns’ wife, Gracie Allen.
Regina kept very busy with many activities including gardening, raising and milking goats and knitting. She was an excellent cook and fed anyone who came to her door. She was a talented writer and counseled many people with her therapeutic writing skills. She loved her family dearly, and they loved her back. She loved being “Busia” and watching her seven grandchildren grow up. She was a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Visitation and Eulogy will be Saturday January 25th at Nash Funeral Home from 9:00 to 10:30 am, followed by an 11:00 am mass at Guardian Angels Church in Crystal Falls. An interment ceremony will take place in May at the Crystal Falls Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Guardian Angels Church, St. Vincent DePaul Society, or the Northwoods Animal Shelter.
