A former Wellington-Vinson, Okla., man, Joy Melvin Owens, 52, was killed by an assailant who broke into his home in North Randall County early Sunday, Aug. 25. Mr. Owens was the son of Mrs. Daisy Owens, formerly of Vinson, now of Hollis, a nephew of Mrs. John Ingram and cousin of Clyde Ingram. Owens was a former Amarillo fireman with 20 years service. He was a car dealer when he died. He was shot several times by the intruder with a small calibre gun. The victim's wife, Faye, was tied hand and foot and a pillow case
was pulled over her head, but was not reported as being injured. After the intruder left, she was able to free herself and phone
friends, who notified officers at 12:27 a.m. Investigating officers said Monday they have few leads and no clues. Mr. Owens was born in Wellington and lived at Hollis before moving to Amarillo more than 25 years ago. He was a charter member of Bell Avenue Baptist Church. He married Faye Boyd in Hollis in 1951.
